Artist statement

Erin-Grace is a lens-based artist from the United Kingdom, currently working in Glasgow, Scotland. The artist primarily works with analogue photography, using both 35mm and medium-format cameras, and produces a mix of color and black-and-white imagery.

The slow nature of the analogue workflow also allows the artist to engage in a hands-on, tactile approach, building a stronger, more considered relationship with the work. Through her projects, she has found that working with an analogue camera often creates unexpected opportunities, encouraging interactions and subject matter that may not arise when using digital photography.

Erin-Grace uses the camera as a tool to explore specific communities, typically on islands. The artist is ultimately interested in both the individuals who shape the communities and the landscapes in which they live. Through her lens, she aims to create bodies of work that reflect the relationships within communities and their connection to land.

The artist aims for her work to allow the viewer to experience both the place and the people who, without the body of work, may never have been seen.
